Migrating from ReferralCandy

This guide is for brands switching from ReferralCandy (including its Boost by ReferralCandy affiliate add-on) to Rekomi. The primary path is a two-credential API pull; a CSV fallback covers the emailed export.

Most teams complete the cutover in a single afternoon. Migration is on Starter or higher; auto-notify is on Growth or higher.

Import via API (recommended)

1. In ReferralCandy, open Account, Profile, API Tokens and copy your Access ID and your Secret.
2. Open /dashboard/settings/migrate, pick ReferralCandy, choose your target Rekomi campaign, and paste both values. They are used once, in memory, and never stored, logged, or shown again.
3. Click Pull from ReferralCandy.

What the pull imports:

• Roster only: email, name, and status. ReferralCandy's API exposes no money or commission amounts at all on its referral and reward endpoints, so the API pull does not attempt to import conversion or commission history. It brings across the affiliate roster.

The contacts list carries no enrollment state and can include customers who never referred anyone, so contacts import as Pending for you to review and approve in bulk; unsubscribed contacts land as Paused. Use the bulk-status action in /dashboard/affiliates to approve your real advocates after the pull.

Because there is no history data behind the API, use the Step 2 CSV flow (below) if you want past commissions to show up on Rekomi.

Re-running the pull is safe: affiliates dedupe by email.

The CSV fallback

ReferralCandy's Contacts, Export (or a campaign's Advocates/Affiliates export) is emailed to you, not downloaded directly: it can take up to 30 minutes to generate, the download link expires after 6 hours, and each batch is capped at 10,000 contacts. The importer matches email, name, and status columns tolerantly.

What the CSV importer brings across

Status mapping

Reclassify any row with the bulk-status action in /dashboard/affiliates after import.

How slug preservation works

ReferralCandy issues hosted refr.cc short links for sharing, which cannot carry over to Rekomi: there is no way to remap a third-party short-link domain. Slug preservation for ReferralCandy is not supported; imported affiliates get a fresh Rekomi slug.

Store-side coupon codes are a separate story. ReferralCandy's FRIEND-prefixed coupon codes (for example FRIEND-A1B2C3) are real Shopify discount codes, so on Shopify stores they keep crediting the right affiliate once they are re-scoped as Rekomi coupons, even though the refr.cc link itself is gone.

Step-by-step cutover

1. Run the API pull (roster) or upload the emailed CSV

Create API credentials under Account, Profile, API Tokens in ReferralCandy and run the pull under /dashboard/settings/migrate, or request the emailed export and upload it once it arrives.

2. Re-scope FRIEND- coupon codes (Shopify only)

If your store is on Shopify, re-scope each affiliate's FRIEND- coupon code as a Rekomi coupon so it keeps crediting the right affiliate after cutover.

3. Check the import result

The import runs synchronously and shows a row-by-row result. Every job is listed under Import history with an Undo button.

4. Opt into auto-notify (Growth+ only)

Send imported affiliates a claim link so they can set up payouts on Rekomi. Send a sample to yourself first.

5. Swap the tracking snippet

Install Rekomi's tracking snippet, then remove ReferralCandy's script. Keep ReferralCandy active for a 24-48 hour shadow period, then cancel.

What is NOT imported

Common gotchas

No money in the API. ReferralCandy's referral and reward endpoints report status and coupon codes but never an amount. If you need historical commissions on Rekomi, prepare a Step 2 CSV from your own records rather than expecting the API pull to bring them.

Emailed export delay and cap. The CSV export is not an instant download: budget up to 30 minutes for it to arrive, download it before the 6-hour link expires, and split accounts over 10,000 contacts into multiple exports.

Cash rewards only. If your ReferralCandy program pays store credit instead of cash, those rewards have no Rekomi commission equivalent and will not appear in any import.

Verifying the import landed clean

1. Open /dashboard/affiliates and spot-check 3-5 rows against the ReferralCandy source.
2. Confirm re-scoped FRIEND- coupon codes are active under /dashboard/coupons (Shopify stores).
3. Send a sample notification to yourself before firing the bulk send.

Importing history and earnings

Because the API pull is roster-only, Step 2 is the only path to bring ReferralCandy's history and earnings onto Rekomi. Prepare a CSV using the generic columns (affiliate email, amount, commission, currency, date) from your own cash-reward records, then upload it under Settings, Migrate, Step 2.
