Payouts go out in 165+ countries (Stripe Express direct deposits in 42, bank deposits in 60 more, PayPal in 66 more), W-9s and W-8s get collected, and 1099-NECs are filed at year end. And there’s a neat symmetry for this particular gateway: Braintree merchants are PayPal-family businesses already, and your affiliates can get paid straight into PayPal accounts across those 110+ countries. FirstPromoter is the incumbent that never dropped Braintree, and it deserves real credit for that. The homepage says it plainly (“Native integrations with Stripe, Paddle, Recurly, Chargebee and Braintree”), and behind the claim sits an actual setup guide, so it passes check #1 without breaking a sweat. It’s been a default choice for SaaS affiliate programs for years, and on Braintree that track record is worth a lot.
Support level: native subscription-webhook integration. Their docs describe it the right way: Braintree’s webhooks notify about subscription events, and FirstPromoter uses them to generate, assign, and adjust commissions for sales, upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations. Model the tier you’ll be on in a year, not the one you start on (a good problem to have, to be fair, since the ladder only climbs when affiliates are earning).
3. Post Affiliate Pro
Post Affiliate Pro has been tracking affiliates since the mid-2000s, and its Braintree support shows the veteran pattern: a dedicated Braintree plugin with its own integration guide, from the era when affiliate software tried to support every gateway on earth rather than just Stripe. In this niche, old-school is a feature.
Support level: dedicated plugin, documented step by step, with the most hands-on setup of the three. You create a visitorid custom field in the Braintree Control Panel, embed the tracking script in your payment form, pass the field when your backend creates the customer (their guide uses Braintree’s PHP SDK), then point a webhook at the plugin’s endpoint with subscription-type notifications enabled. Nothing exotic, but plan on a developer for the afternoon.

The popular tools that sit Braintree out
This list matters as much as the one above, because these are the names you’d probably try first. All five are good tools on their home turf; none of them can see a Braintree transaction. What their own sites say, as of this writing:
- Rewardful builds “affiliate and referral programs with Stripe & Paddle” (their words), and Braintree appears nowhere on the site.
- Tolt pitches “Integrate Stripe, Paddle or Chargebee within 15 minutes.” Braintree isn’t on the list.
- PromoteKit‘s headline is “Affiliate Software built for Stripe.” You can’t say it any clearer than that.
- Tapfiliate lists Stripe and PayPal as the payment integrations on its live integrations page; the only Braintree routes I could find are third-party automation relays, which fail check #1.
