Common questions.
Is this referral program software or affiliate program software?
Both, on one campaign engine. A free month campaign is a customer referral program: your customers refer friends and get product credit. A cash campaign is a classic affiliate program with payouts. You can run both at once for the same product.
Does the referrer need to set up payouts or send a tax form?
No. The reward is a credit on their account with you, on your own billing platform, so there is nothing to pay out and nothing to report. Someone whose only campaigns reward with free months never sees payout setup in Rekomi.
What happens if the friend gets a refund?
A full refund of the friend's first payment reverses the credit while it is unused: the balance credit is taken back, or the discount, free period or skipped payment is removed before the next billing date. On Stripe a used credit is clawed back on the next invoice. On the other platforms a credit the referrer already used is flagged for you instead. Partial refunds leave the credit alone.
Which billing platforms support it?
Stripe (through the Rekomi app for Stripe), Chargebee, Recurly, Paddle, Braintree, Lemon Squeezy, Dodo Payments and Mollie. Each uses its own primitive: a customer balance credit, a one-cycle discount, a free billing period or a skipped payment. Lemon Squeezy can only give one month of the referrer's plan, and Braintree needs a discount you create once in your Control Panel. Stores (Shopify, Wix, BigCommerce) and Polar, Creem and Gumroad keep cash commissions.
Can the friend get something too?
Yes. Add a campaign coupon and each referrer gets a code their friend can use at checkout, so the offer is two-sided: the friend saves on their first invoice and the referrer gets a month free.
